Shotcourier

Privacy

Your screenshots stay on your Mac, except where you send them.

Shotcourier is a menu bar app that catches the screenshots your Mac takes and sends each one to the places you tick on a card. This page says what leaves the Mac, and it is short because almost nothing does.

What leaves the Mac

By default, nothing. Shotcourier has no analytics, no account, no crash reporting and no check-in with us. It does not know you are running it.

  • DefaultNothing. No request leaves the Mac until you turn a destination on that needs one.
  • LinkThe one network call the app can make: the upload of a shot to a storage bucket you own (Cloudflare R2, Amazon S3 or Backblaze B2), using keys you entered, only for a shot with Link ticked. The link it copies points at your bucket.
  • PhotosNot a network call. The shot goes into the Photos library on the Mac through Photos' own door. If iCloud Photos is on, Photos carries it to your other devices the way it carries every picture.
  • Sync foldersDropbox and iCloud Drive: not a network call by the app. A copy is written into the folder on the Mac that Dropbox or iCloud Drive syncs, and that app does the syncing.

Where screenshots live

The Mac saves each shot into Shotcourier's inbox, a folder under Pictures on your Mac. From there the app copies it to the clipboard and to the destinations you ticked. The copy in the inbox stays for a few days so the Shot Log can send it again, then it is removed.

The Shot Log

The Shot Log is a list of recent shots and where each one went. It is a file on your Mac, readable by your account alone, and the app opens it only after the Mac's own lock: Touch ID, or your password. Nothing in it is sent anywhere.

The clipboard

The instant a shot lands it is copied to the clipboard, before the card appears, so you can paste it at once. Untick Clipboard on the card and the app puts back what the clipboard held, if nothing else has written to it since.

The Mac's own settings

Shotcourier changes one setting: where the Mac saves screenshots. It remembers what was there and puts it back when you turn routing off or quit. It does not change your keyboard shortcuts.
